Professor Marques Vestal, co-author of LCHP’s recent report, The Making of a Crisis: A History of Homelessness in Los Angeles, was recently interviewed by LAist about the Los Angeles homelessness crises through the lens of racial inequality. LCHP’s report explores the rise of homelessness from the Great Depression to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in this article, Vestal focuses on the rise of Black homelessness. The LAist article describes the historic roots of the outsized Black representation in the homeless population. The full article can be found here and the full homelessness report can be found here.
